Athletic Vision

To build and maintain an athletic program that is committed to:

Mission Statement

The goal of Eastside Christian Academy is to strive for excellence with Christ as the center. This same principle will guide our athletics program. ECA is committed to building quality athletic programs that are headed by quality Christian coaches that will be guided by Christian principles on and off the athletic field or court.

Athletic Purpose

ECA recognizes the tremendous impact that coaches and participation on a team can have on a young person. Sometimes coaches and teammates can have the life-changing impact on a student that they may not get solely from a classroom environment. The ultimate purpose of ECA athletics is to minister to the spiritual needs of the participants and to instill Christ-like qualities such as perseverance, unity, diligence, and patience.

Objective

The objective of ECA Athletics is to develop athletes that honor God in everything that they do.
Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

Expectations

Because Christ is to be at the center of all we do, ECA has high expectations for every athlete, coach, parent, and other participants in ECA athletics. All are expected to:

Eligibility and Participation Requirements

Sportsmanship

As with all things that we do, the highest levels of sportsmanship, effort, and attitude are expected. Not only does this apply to players, but coaches, parents, and fans as well. Poor sportsmanship may result in disciplinary action or dismissal from an activity or the team.

Academic and Behavior Expectations

While it is our belief that sports are an important and valuable part of a student's development, it must be clear that participation in sports is an extracurricular activity. That means that participation must be limited to those that are in good academic standing and behaving appropriately in the classroom. All students participating in sports must maintain the Minimum requirements:

Eligibility will be determined on a week by week basis. On Friday, a grade and behavioral check will be done to determine eligibility for the following week. Any student not fulfilling the academic or behavior requirements above is INELIGIBLE for the following week. This student may participate in practices, but not in games. This student will regain eligibility once they have improved and met the minimum academic requirements.

Grade Eligibility for Participation

Students in grades 4-8 will be eligible to try out for all Middle School sports. Students may not repeat any grade and participate in sports the year in which they are repeating. Any student turning 15 before August 1 of a school year is not eligible to participate in Middle School sports.

Sports Physical form

All students MUST have a ECA Sports Physical Form completed and turned in before he or she attends tryouts or practices. All information on the form is required. You can pick up a form from ECA or download the form from the ECA website ( www.ecaky.org )

Proof of Insurance

The students must have proof of insurance, up to $25,000, to participate on a school team.

Athletic Fees

Some sports/activities may require a fee for participation. The coach/sponsor will make this known prior to the start of the season through a letter home or in a pre-season meeting.

Transportation

Generally speaking, coaches are NOT permitted to transport athletes at any time. Parents are responsible to provide transportation to and from all games and practices. ECA will try to provide transportation to all games outside of Jefferson County through a church van or carpools. Students may not transport other students to any sports activity.

Practices

Coaches should cover practice expectations prior to the beginning of the season. Practices are mandatory, and should be attended with the same regularity as school attendance. Wednesday practices will end by 5:15 p.m. so that students may attend church.

Parents need to pick up their children in a timely manner after games and practices. Students are NOT to be left on campus after school unless their practice time is immediately after school.

Awards/Recognition celebration

Each team will have their own end of the season celebration. Coaches must work with the Administration to schedule this event. The program is a time for special recognition and celebration of individual and team accomplishments.
