Bylaws of the PTO of ECA

ARTICLE I.

Name

The name of this organization shall be the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) of
Eastside Christian Academy (ECA).

ARTICLE II.

Purpose

The purpose of the PTO is to enhance and support the educational experience and spiritual development of students at Eastside Christian Academy; to develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging involvement; and to improve the environment at ECA through volunteer and financial support.

ARTICLE III.

Membership

Section 1.Membership in the PTO shall be open to parents, grandparents, and guardians of students enrolled in ECA and to all ECA staff interested in the objectives of this organization.

Section 2. Parents, grandparents, guardians, and teachers of ECA students shall be called active members.

Section 3. Members are encouraged attend regular meetings of the PTO and are encouraged to give input into the decision-making process.

Section 4. PTO membership is free and encouraged.

Section 5. The fiscal year shall be in accordance with the school year from August through May.

ARTICLE IV.

PTO Board

Section 1. The PTO Board will be comprised of the PTO officers and the principal. The PTO Board shall have final authority in PTO decisions.
Section 2. The PTO Board and committee chairpersons will meet prior to the school year to make goals for the year.
Section 3. The PTO Board will meet as needed throughout the year. PTO Board meetings may be called by the PTO President or the principal.

ARTICLE V.

Officers

Section 1. Each officer and committee chairperson shall be an active member of the PTO and expected to attend all pertinent meetings.
Section 2. The officers of the PTO shall be President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and President-Elect.
Section 3. All committee chairpersons shall be approved by the officers.
Section 4. Officers shall serve for 2 years or until their successors are elected. Their term of office shall begin in at the end of the previous school year, and end once a successor has been appointed.
Section 5. PTO members interested in holding an office or committee chair shall complete an officer form to turn in by the March meeting. The PTO Board will consider interested members, and select officers for the following school year. These positions will be announced at the April meeting.
Section 6. All officers are volunteer - no paid positions.

ARTICLE VII.

Meetings

Section 1. Regular meetings shall be held monthly unless otherwise ordered by the officers.

Section 2. During the regular meeting in March applications for officer positions will be received.

Section 3. Special meetings may be called by the President or officers. The purpose of the meeting shall be stated in the call. Except in cases of emergencies, at least 3 days notice shall be given.

Section 4. PTO decisions will be made by consensus of members present at the meeting. In case a consensus cannot be reached, the decision will go to a vote and the majority of those present will constitute a quorum.

ARTICLE VIII.

Committees

Section 1. The PTO will have the following standing committees/coordinators:

Fundraising
Teacher Appreciation
Volunteer Coordinator
Marketing
Teacher Resources
Event/program Coordinator
Communication

No committee work shall be undertaken without prior approval from the officers. All committee chairpersons shall report committee work to PTO board.

Section 2. Such other committees, standing or special, shall be appointed as the President or officers may deem necessary.

ARTICLE IX.

Finances

Section 1. All monies raised by the PTO will be deposited in the PTO checking account. The PTO treasurer and one staff member shall have authorization of this checking account.

Section 2. All disbursements must be approved by a majority of the PTO Board.

Section 3. A budget will be submitted for PTO Board approval by each committee prior to school year. The PTO Board will discuss and set the budget for the year at the Board's summer meeting. The Budget will be presented at the first PTO meeting.

Section 4. The PTO will tithe 10% of all monies raised to a non-profit ministry of the PTO's choosing. The organization selected must be approved by the majority of the PTO Board, the principal, and the ECA School Board.

ARTICLE X.

Amendments

These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the PTO by a two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting or has been sent to each member thirty days prior to the meeting at which it will be considered.
