Spiritual Development
What distinguishes a Christian school from other private schools or public schools is the emphasis on spiritual growth. At ECA, we believe a person is made up of three main components - body, soul, and spirit. A complete education should seek to nurture and develop each of those three parts. In addition to having a Bible curriculum and teaching all subjects through the lens of a Biblical worldview, Eastside Christian Academy promotes spiritual growth in our students in a number of ways. First of all, we believe it is important that all of our staff models the qualities of a mature Christian believer, exhibiting Christ-like character and practicing Biblical principles of behavior, including following the spiritual habits of prayer and devotion to God's Word.
Secondly, we believe it is important to give students opportunities to nurture their relationship with God while at school. This includes corporate and individual prayer, worship, Bible reading, and opportunities to serve. This school year, we have implemented a 10 minute block of time at the beginning of the school day devoted to teaching students how to practice the spiritual habits of prayer, worship, meditation, and Bible reading/study. Each morning, teachers and students devote those 10 minutes to practicing one of those spiritual habits. It is our desire that these habits will follow them all of their lives.
Finally, we promote spiritual growth through our weekly chapel program. Each Tuesday morning, we gather for a 30 minute chapel program in the New Life Church chapel. This program includes teaching on God's Word, a time of worship led by the student-led group Caught Up, and an additional teaching or testimonial through a skit, guest speaker, or staff member. Our chapel program allows us to come together as a school community to worship God and grow in our relationship and knowledge of Him.
